Roland is the Founder and CEO of Enviral, an environmental health initiative addressing overlooked health threats in underserved communities. The organization's foundation traces to a 2017 community environmental health profile and his 2022 graduate thesis on metal pollution in the soils surrounding the Agbogbloshie e-waste site. He holds an MS in Environmental Health from Harvard, was selected for the Harvard Climate Leaders Program, and is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist and NEHA member. Roland has served as an Environmental Health Specialist for the Florida and Massachusetts Departments of Health and now works as an EHS Specialist in Los Angeles, supporting research safety and compliance in institutional settings.
During his undergraduate studies in Agricultural Engineering in Ghana, Derrick published research on the energy potential and emissions characteristics of coconut waste — work that opened his eyes to the broader challenges of waste management and the environmental cost of improper disposal, while also revealing how much value lies in transforming waste into a resource.
Upon graduation, he was hired as a Research and Teaching Assistant with the Technology Consultancy Center, where he further developed his skills and knowledge, before moving on to a role as a Design Engineer at a solar engineering company, designing photovoltaic systems and helping deliver renewable energy projects.
In the solar energy industry, one question kept nagging at him: what happens to the inverters, solar panels, cables, controllers, and batteries once they become obsolete, damaged, or discarded? Clean energy solves one environmental problem, but it also feeds into another — the growing crisis of electronic waste.
Meeting his co-founder, and learning about his work on e-waste, connected every dot in Derrick's journey. As a Mechanical Engineer working in one of Canada's leading mines, his co-founder had seen firsthand what a well-run collection system for electronic waste looks like — but one question remained unanswered: where do all of these actually end up?
Tizard leads the innovation and technical strategy behind Enviral GH's digital campaigns, data systems, and environmental technologies, drawing on a background in engineering and a passion for tech-driven impact — ensuring the organization's mission is powered by cutting-edge tools and scalable solutions.
Anosha holds a background in Environmental Epidemiology from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where her research focused on the environmental and biological determinants of infectious disease, including malaria invasion mechanisms. She brings a rigorous, data-driven approach to global health challenges, with a deep commitment to improving outcomes through research, policy, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Dr. Boniface Mensah is a physician and public health professional committed to advancing health equity in underserved populations. He holds a Master of Public Health from Harvard University, and his work bridges clinical medicine and public health research, with a growing focus on the impact of electronic waste on vulnerable communities in Ghana. His goal is to develop evidence-based strategies to mitigate environmental exposures and reduce health disparities.
Dr. Fredrick Larbi Kwapong is a physician and public health consultant with a strong foundation in global and environmental health. With clinical training and experience across diverse populations, he specializes in designing, implementing, and evaluating health programs that address pressing environmental and global health challenges, drawing on deep expertise in research, policy, and community engagement.
Abigail connects Enviral GH's mission with communities across the region, building relationships that ground the organization's research and programs in the lived experience of those most affected by e-waste pollution.
Philip leads Enviral GH's work with young people, building environmental health awareness and leadership among students and youth groups across Accra.
